In step with the new standard

The new EN ISO 20345:2022 standard relating to PPE “safety footwear” has been published.

Sixton Peak® is in step with legislative changes to ensure the highest levels of safety of its products.

Footwear certified according to EN ISO 20345:2011 may continue to be placed on the market even after the introduction of the new standard until the natural expiry of the certificate.

What is Regulation (EU) 2016/425?

Regulation (EU) 2016/425 of 9th March 2016 is the European law that regulates the market for personal protective equipment, defines and distributes the responsibilities of the various economic operators.

Among the innovations introduced by the Regulation, remember:
- the determination of the period of validity of a certificate: not exceeding 5 years
-  the indication on the CE marking of the postal address of the manufacturer and the production batch number
-  possibility of also making the declaration of conformity available online: https://certificati.sixton.it/

Why can we still place EN ISO 20345:2011 certified PPE on the market?

Safety footwear certified according to EN ISO 20345:2011 can continue to be placed on the market until the end of the validity (expiry date) of the certificates issued by the notified bodies.
Certificates (Regulation EU 2016/425) based on EN ISO 20345:2011 will remain valid even after the harmonization of the new EN ISO 20345:2022 as the new standard does not provide a significant increase in protection compared to the previous version.

Why the new standard?

The rules are updated periodically (approximately every 5 years) with consequent publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The references of the harmonized standards for PPE published in the Official Journal of the European Union can be found by consulting the website of the European Commission at the following link:
